Talking Cows is the brainchild of pianist Robert Jan Vermeulen and saxophonist-composer Frans Vermeerssen. Two musicians who found each other thanks to this project, because in style they're miles apart. Vermeulen occupied himself with more traditional jazz genres, being part of the Amsterdam Jazz Quartet, whereas Vermeerssen had experimented quite a lot as a quartet leader and with Arend Niks (No Can Do). Together with bassist Dion Nijland and drummer Yonga Sun they now form a quartet that combines the best of both jazzy worlds. Talking Cows openly face their music, leading to a fresh new repertoire with an interesting point of view. Or, as they say themselves: music for the mind and the heart. Remarkable: their album Almost Human was awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars in leading American jazz magazine Downbeat.
