Banjo player Béla Fleck, known for his band The Flecktones, met African vocalist Oumou Sangaré in 2005. In that year, New Yorker Fleck visited West Africa, where the banjo has its origins, to play together with many musicians from that particular region. Oumou Sangaré, Mali superstar, was one of them. The sound of her voice and that of Fleck's banjo went together so well, that Fleck and Sangaré have worked together more often since that time. This summer, they can be enjoyed together for the first time at North Sea Jazz. Language or musical barriers will be taken down in an impressive fashion by these two artists. They are supported by the four-member band of Sangaré and the show will include compositions from the beautiful film Throw Down Your Heart, which documents Fleck's emotional visit to Africa.
