Rotterdam Brass Band School
The SKVR Rotterdam Brass Band School is the place to be for Caribbean brass music, and every year a group of students gives a swinging performance at the main entrance before the commencement of the festival. Students of all ages and backgrounds receive lessons in percussion, trumpet and trombone, and perform at small and large events. Every year, the school, together with North Sea Jazz, invites a musician from the festival to give the students a workshop. After the workshop, the students give a performance on the square in front of Ahoy.
Harmony’s Brass Band
The motley crew that is Harmony's Brass Band from Porto-Novo, the capital of Benin, played outside their own continent for the very first time last year when they gave an electrifying performance at the Africa Festival in Hertme. Set up and stirred up by trombonist Florentin Koudjou, Harmony's Brass Band packs the playfulness of New Orleans, modern jazz and traditional African rhythms into one giant festive street spectacle. You’ll just as easily spot them on a stage as in a town plaza or neighborhood party. At the festival they do both as well: in addition to their performance on the Congo Square stage, they will play with both feet on the floor.
Dats It BB
Dats It BB is a French brass band playing New Orleans jazz, funk and hip-hop. The group is made up of eight musicians who know each other by heart and who brought back the solar spirit of their music from their journey of New Orleans. It's a sound that shines and invites their audience to dance and let loose. Dats It BB is a lively brass band that is always moving forward, grooving and swinging. They are all about enjoying themselves, but also call for peace, tolerance and a celebration of life. Engaging, dancing and partying. That’s Dats It BB, and that’s what a brass band is all about!
