Stanley Clarke has been one of the world's most renowned bass players since the 1970s. He belongs in the same league as Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten, with whom he shook the foundations of jazz in 2008 with their collaborative effort S.M.V. Never before had three bass players of their caliber worked together. Shortly before that time, Clarke was reunited for a short while with Chick Corea, Lenny White and Al Di Meola in Return to Forever, the legendary jazz-rock fusion formation of which he was a member in the 1970s. Clarke likes to work together with pianists, too. This year, he will perform at North Sea Jazz with Hiromi from Japan, with whom he recorded Jazz in the Garden in 2009. Hiromi is seen as one of the new promising artists on the jazz scene and she featured in an exciting duo performance at the festival last year with pianist Akiko Yano.
