Nicholas Payton (New Orleans, 1973) is a brilliant trumpeter and he even sings sometimes. The latter he showed on his album
Dear Louis (2001), a tribute to patriarch Louis Armstrong. He also received a Grammy for his CD with Doc Cheatham, another legendary colleague.
Doc Cheatham & Nicholas Payton appeared in 1997. However,Payton is mostly famous for his work in neo bop, a style he presents on most of his CDs - although he is showing a tendency to broaden his style. As on his latest album
Into the Blue which he sees as the zenith of all his exploits. A playing style that is aimed at pure beauty, elegance and simplicity. Nicholas Payton has arrived at a point in his career where he claims he has reached his maturity as a musician. He erected the building blocks to achieve this in collaborations with, among others, Clark Terry, Elvin Jones and Joe Henderson. In 2008 he became a member of The Blue Note 7, a group that celebrated the 70th birthday of the Blue Note record label.
