We all know
Chris Botti as the musical crown prince of Chet Baker. Few of us know that Botti used to have a successful career as a studio musician in the world of pop. The trumpeter can be heard on recordings by, for example, Bob Dylan and Aretha Franklin. At the beginning of the nineties he became a member of the Paul Simon Band, a gig that was to last for five years. In 1995 his first solo album was released – a pop-like record with textures of art-rock. He was invited to tour with Sting and Michael Bublé and now, in the year 2006, he can return their favours. Botti made room for some vocal contributions of his former patrons on his prestigious new album
To Love Again. The fact that Jill Scott, Gladys Knight and Billy Childs can also be heard on this album illustrates Botti’s status in contemporary jazz.
