Saxophonist and composer Nicole McCabe lives and works in Los Angeles, where she earned a master’s degree from the Thornton School of Music in 2022. Earlier, she had received an undergraduate degree in Jazz Studies from Portland State University. McCabe started young and was already giving music lessons while still in high school. She continues to teach today, including in the Jazz in the Classroom program at the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz. In 2018, she formed her own quartet and immediately recorded two albums under her own name. She won the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award in 2022 and received the Jeff Clayton Memorial New Note Award that same year. McCabe values understanding the tradition and working hard on the foundation to then create something relevant to her point of view and way of life. Her latest album Live At Jamboree (Fresh Sound, 2024) was recorded in Barcelona.
