With legendary guitarist R.L. Burnside as your grandfather, it's a given to have a love of music running through your veins, so it’s no surprise then that Cedric Burnside went on tour with the country blues phenomenon from Mississippi at the age of thirteen as a drummer, which is his father's profession. Meanwhile, the now 45-year-old American has also evolved into an accomplished guitarist, and one who’s created a modern take on the music so beloved by his grandfather. He only just missed out on a Grammy on two occasions, but managed to pick up the award for Best Traditional Blues Album for I Be Trying in 2021. During his debut at NN North Sea Jazz, Burnside will also play songs from the recently released Hill Country Love; an album that is an ode to his roots, and therefore also to the musical legacy of his grandfather, who performed at the festival himself back in 1997.
