Since singer-songwriter and pianist Karsu made her debut in 2012 with the album Confession, she has performed in over twenty countries around the world, played Carnegie Hall no less than three times, and has taken to the stage twice at North Sea Jazz. For her second album, Colors, she was awarded an Edison in 2016. And, since the release of her third album Karsu in 2019, she has also been gaining in popularity in Turkey, where her concerts are invariably sold out. Karsu Dönmez (1990) was born and raised in Amsterdam to Turkish parents. She switches between singing in Turkish and English, blending influences from traditional Turkish music, jazz, blues and pop into a completely unique totality. Recently, she also recorded a Dutch-language disco track with the title Kom Dansen (‘Come Dancing’). It’s fair to say though that she probably generates the most impact on her own at the piano when singing - in whatever language - about a lost or impossible love.
