Sometimes an unexpected encounter culminates in sheer magic and unprecedented success; this was the case when busker Eric Burton and guitarist Adrian Quesada were introduced seven years ago, which immediately sparked a creative click and mutual chemistry. With only a few songs to their repertoire, Black Pumas (from Austin, Texas) decided to take to the stage and enhance their unity as a duo through extensive gigging. New material soon followed, and for their self-titled debut, which was a perfect reflection of their soul, funk and psychedelic rock blend, the pair even received three Grammy nominations, including album of the year. In the meantime, the live act of Black Pumas – who are backed by a further five musicians on stage – has become a global sensation, selling out AFAS Live twice in a row and, with the second album Chronicles Of A Diamond (2023) on the shelves, Rotterdam Ahoy also looks set to be wowed by their dazzling stage show.
