Why don’t we all just enjoy the inimitable and expressive voice of Benjamin Clementine for a little while longer, as his next album may very well be his last.
The reason is that Clementine has said that singing is just one sole aspect of his creative journey, and he’s looking to explore his other artistic talents. With his striking androgynous looks, he already left a lasting impression through his appearance in the film Dune (2021), as the ‘Herald of the Change’. It was a personal highlight in a journey of peaks and troughs. Having grown up in London’s run-down Edmonton area, Clementine ventured to the city of Paris to busk on the subway as a homeless youth. Once discovered, a Mercury Prize immediately followed for his debut album At Least For Now (2015). His most recent third album And I Have Been was released in 2022. His raw vocals and compelling piano playing are especially potent in a live setting. Anyone who has ever seen Clementine pour his very heart and soul into his performances will surely hope this special artist will never move on from singing.
