The boy whose first music lessons were listening to his mother do the laundry by a river has become one of Brazil's best-known singers, and an icon of the MPB, 'Brazilian Popular Music', a style that originated in the 60s, and where traditional samba is mixed with other genres. Djavan combines the styles of his motherland with African, American and European pop. In 2022, the year that marked his fiftieth year on stage, he released his 25th album entitled D. The songs on this album are characterized by a sizeable infusion of sunshine. The track Illuminado, one of the album's hits, is typical of his personal way of writing. He wrote it while his children and grandchildren were playing on the beach, where he heard a ukulele melody his daughter was playing. Djavan is a masterfully agile guitarist with a warm voice, who instantaneously enchants his audience with a wide variety of styles.
