Maastricht is nowhere near either Thailand or Japan, however, South-East Asian musical traditions are key elements of the music made by YĪN YĪN, even though they hail from the Dutch province of Limburg. Their distinct sound comes partly from traditional Asian instruments, and partly from vintage synthesizers that transform their material into a psychedelic grab bag. The foundation is mostly a base of funk, disco or psychedelic rock. Through their first albums, which mainly featured Thai sounds, YĪN YĪN have already proved a sensation at many festivals and pop venues, also internationally, and the adventurous, mostly instrumental sounds of these Limburgers have an easy appeal. Their latest album Mount Matsu, which features more Japanese influences, is now also taking them on tour to the Asian countries they love so much, but, during NN North Sea Jazz, Mount Matsu will arise in Rotterdam, just for a brief spell.
