Proyecto Jazz for Kids is an educational project that unites and connects young people from Aragón (in rural northeastern Spain) with young musicians from across the whole country. This musical undertaking began in 2013 with three jazz-loving teachers and 12 students. Today’s participants rehearse together and perform concerts to which professional musicians from home and abroad are invited. The project has welcomed more than 200 students to date, giving over 100 concerts in Aragon and at jazz festivals in Spain and beyond. Moreover, there have been cultural encounters with other youth big bands in the Netherlands, Puerto Rico and the US. Jazz for Kids has made three albums so far and received an Aragon music award in 2020. The band plays a repertoire of jazz standards, pop song arrangements and their own compositions.
