Wasia Project is a British pop duo consisting of siblings Olivia Hardy and William Gao. Raised in a musical household, they were influenced by artists varying from ABBA and The Beatles to Beyoncé and Billie Eilish, but also by jazz and classical music. Gao took up classical piano as a child, Hardy learned how to play the violin via the Japanese study method of Suzuki. They began Wasia Project in 2019, and uploaded their debut single Why Don’t You Love Me on SoundCloud. They released their debut EP How Can I Pretend? in 2023 and that same year, their song Ur So Pretty was included on the soundtrack for Heartstopper, the successful Netflix series in which Gao found fame as an actor. In addition to their own UK headline tour, the band has toured supporting Tom Odell and Laufey. On stage, Hardy and Gao are joined by a drummer and bassist, and offer an engaging mix of alt-pop, jazz fusions and worldly pop music.
