Wherever you look, everything shakes, screeches and swings when Harmony's Brass Band take to the stage. This motley crew from Porto-Novo, the capital of Benin, played outside their own continent for the very first time last year when they gave an electrifying performance at the Africa Festival in Hertme. Set up and stirred up by trombonist Florentin Koudjou, Harmony's Brass Band packs the playfulness of New Orleans, modern jazz and traditional African rhythms into one giant festive street spectacle. You’ll just as easily spot them on a stage as in a town plaza or neighborhood party, and so also swinging away on Congo Square. According to their official press release, Harmony's Brass Band is currently a six-piece, but don't be surprised if more band members turn up to toot along. After all, the only rule this cheerful outfit has, is simply to party with anyone who wants to participate.
