Although alto saxophonist Angelika Niescier was born in Szczecin, Poland, she has lived in Germany since 1981. From 1994 to 1998, she studied at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. In 2000, she formed her quartet Angelika Niescier-sublim, with whom she recorded three well-received albums. Since then, she’s been performing on both national and international stages. Niescier is very much involved in interdisciplinary collaborations with writers and visual artists (including the project Konzert des Deutschen Musikrates in 2003). As a composer, she writes commissioned pieces for theatre music, modern dance theatre, choral and orchestral works and film music. Her latest album Beyond Dragons was named 'Jazz Album of the Month' by The Guardian in 2023. Together with the American cellist Tomeka Reid and the Bergamo-born Francesca Remigi on drums, the three make up the trio Niescier/Reid/Remigi: three maestras of free music with sparkle, drive and fun, who bring the originality of Niescier's compositions to life in a vibrant way.
