There is little that singer Sanem Kalfa cannot do with her voice. Using her elastic vocal cords, she conjures up Turkish jazz compositions and drenches them with a rich palette of emotions. Kalfa was born on the Black Sea, a place where she believes people are devoted to the earth. As a singer, she has already played on many prominent stages and developed her voice into an instrument in its own right. She also plays cello and uses electronic effects. Moreover, in her project Miraculous Layers she is accompanied by several top musicians: Tineke Postma on saxophone, Marta Warelis on piano and Sun-Mi Hong on drums. She developed the project for Bimhuis during the lockdown and conflicting emotions are the central focus. Sanem Kalfa couples technical mastery with a free spirit while digging ever deeper into the human soul.
