Last year, Spanish trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer Milena Casado performed at NN North Sea Jazz as a member of Terri Lyne Carrington’s band. This year, she is taking center stage with her own quintet. Casado is one of today’s new rising stars and she stands out with her unique and very personal approach to music. Although rooted in tradition, as a composer and instrumentalist Casado taps into entirely new ground in an extraordinary way. In addition to Terri Lyne Carrington, Casado has played with such names as Aaron Parks, Jazzmeia Horn and Jorge Rossy. At the Berklee School of Music, Casado studied with Danilo Perez and Joe Lovano. She has performed on stage at several major clubs and festivals such as the Village Vanguard, Blue Note, Montreal Jazz Festival and Monterey Jazz Festival. With her current group, Casado is recording her debut album, to be released later this year.
