The French bassist Henri Texier (1945) began his musical career at the age of fifteen as a pianist in Parisian nightclubs. Not long after, he switched to bass and became a much sought-after accompanist for touring American artists such as Bud Powell, Donald Byrd and Phil Woods. His heart however was in playing the free jazz of the likes of Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, and Texier developed into one of the pioneers of avant-garde jazz in France. Later, he also experimented with traditional Celtic and French songs, along with African and Indian music. The common thread running through all the interwoven genres and experiments is Texier’s warm, melodic sound. Since the 90s, he has been working together with his son, reed player Sébastien, quite a bit, including on his latest album An Indian's Life. In Rotterdam, Texier will share the stage with Sébastien, as well as Manu Codjia (guitar), Carlo Nardozza (trumpet) and Christophe Marguet (drums).
