Chick Corea, Al Di Meola and Juan Luis Guerra are just three icons who have enlisted the versatile jazz pianist and composer Gonzalo Rubalcaba. With no less than 18 Grammy nominations, six of which were awarded, Rubalcaba is one of the most significant and creative figures within the world of Latin jazz, and was already a phenomenon in his home country of Cuba when Dizzy Gillespie discovered him. The US and Europe soon followed, and he went on to record material for Blue Note Records. In 2021, he released the Grammy-winning album Skyline with heavyweights Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette. In the same year, Rubalcaba gave a fiery performance at NN North Sea Jazz Downtown with Aymée Nuviola. Last year, there was even a double release: the duo album Pédron Rubalcaba and the solo LP Borrowed Roses. Rubalcaba’s lineup for the festival will be a trio.
