His virtuoso playing and warm singing voice make British singer-songwriter and pianist Reuben James one of the most exciting and creatively confident artists of his generation. The Londoner was inspired from a young age by blues, jazz and gospel, but seems to have fleshed out his colorful musical palette mainly by collaborating with musicians from different genres. For example, he co-wrote Sam Smith’s hit album The Thrill Of It All (2017) and has joined forces with luminaries from contrasting musical universes such as Joni Mitchell, Stormzy, Bonnie Raitt, Herbie Hancock, Elton John and Disclosure. In his own neo-soul and R&B-inspired work, James constantly pushes the boundaries between jazz and pop, enjoying coloring outside the lines. With his authentic sound and velvety voice, James can therefore certainly be considered one of the most refreshing and exciting innovators from the United Kingdom.
