According to the leading music platform Pitchfork, American rapper Smino is 'one of the most refreshing voices in hip-hop'. Christopher Smith Jr., the MC's birth name, was brought up with a love for music at his childhood home in St. Louis. He started playing drums as a child, but after moving to Chicago he began to develop into more of a rapper and singer. After two acclaimed EPs, his debut album blkswn (2017) planted him firmly on the map. Smino switches up funk, soul and of course hip-hop in his songs, and delivers them with a fiery flow and humorous lyrics filled with self-reflection. The American now has three full-length albums to his name, and has worked with major players such as Robert Glasper, Chance the Rapper and Denzel Curry, so this seems the perfect moment for an overdue debut at the festival.
