New Moluccan Guitars is a duo consisting of two generations of Moluccan jazz guitarists from The Netherlands: Maurice Rugebregt and Rafael Devánte Sinay. Together they play lyrical standards, jazz arrangements of Moluccan traditionals and originals. The acoustic nylon-string guitar and jazz guitar provide a beautiful combination of sounds that will certainly also appeal to non-guitarists. The duo stands for tasteful melodic interplay with respect for each other's input. Rugebregt is a sought-after guitarist, both in jazz and Brazilian music, who has worked with Denise Jannah, Laura Fygi, Benjamin Herman and Zuco 103. Sinay belongs to the new generation of jazz guitarists in the Netherlands. Last year, he performed at the festival as part of Smandem. with three fellow graduates of the Amsterdam conservatory. This year, he is far busier, as he will also play with Latanya Alberto, Gino-Cochise and Philip Lassiter, and participates in the Metropole Orkest’s The Diaspora Suite.
