Fuensanta Méndez was born in Veracruz, Mexico, and has lived in the Netherlands since 2015. The singer, bassist, improviser and composer is a standout talent on Amsterdam’s young cosmopolitan jazz scene. Fuensanta has a penchant for poetry that can be heard in her colorful, subtle and sometimes raw lyrics. During her studies in Mexico and Amsterdam, she discovered that singing, bass and poetry were the ultimate combination for her. Fuensanta enchants listeners with the voice of a nightingale. You can hear the freedom and richness of contemporary jazz in her music. At the same time, her songs retain the simplicity of popular songs. At their concerts, Fuensanta & Ensamble Grande create an atmosphere where mysticism, spirituality, poetry and folklore come together to form a unique whole. Sometimes subdued, sometimes exhilarating. Fuensanta has collaborated with Louis Cole, Aaron Parks and Han Bennink, among others.
