Flutist and composer Ronald Snijders is one of the most famous Surinamese musicians in the Netherlands, Suriname and beyond. He’s a musical citizen of the world, creative man of multiple skills, and a particularly versatile and talented tone artist. Both Suriname and the Netherlands knighted him for the bridges he builds between cultures in his music. Since his arrival in the Netherlands in 1970, Snijders has shown himself to be a master at blending Surinamese dance music, Caribbean salsa, bossa nova, funk and jazz. He is therefore referred to as the most swinging flutist in the Netherlands. In 2022, Snijders won the prestigious Boy Edgar prize. This year he returns to the festival with the Ronald Snijders Special Band: a group of musicians with whom Snijders once again demonstrates his unrelenting musical curiosity and appetite for innovation. He’s on a dynamic quest for an ongoing interaction between world music, jazz, classical, pop and beyond, which is proving a super swinging success.
