Amsterdam-based Danish guitarist and composer Teis Semey has been an established name on the avant-garde scene for years. With a conservatory education under his belt and a raw approach to music in his mind, Semey aims to bridge the gap between classical and punk in his expressive music. During the lull caused by the global pandemic, he revisited his youth and the folk music sung in his childhood home. These songs and hymns form part of the basis of his latest album, Mean Mean Machine (2021), which has earned worldwide acclaim for its raw rock-driven dynamics and avant-garde yet harmonic approach. Together with his young, talented band, Semey will also dazzle his festival audience with the free jazz energy and blend of styles and cultures that the Teis Semey Quintet brings to the stage.
