Anyone who musically colors their debut album with a diverse pallet of shades and tones from artists such as Paul McCartney, Grizzly Bear, Kendrick Lamar and Little Dragon reveals both a sense of curiosity and ambition. Son Little (real name: Aaron Livingstone) from Philadelphia is not merely a singer-songwriter. This US artist has a preference for roots and urban crossover, and his artistic radar has been in full scan mode since the release of his successful self-titled first album. The R&B artist has worked with hip-hop producer RJD2, The Roots, Portugal. The Man and Mavis Staples. Little, who plays virtually all the instruments on his records himself, surprised us last year with his rather personal effort Like Neptune, on which he turns his chronic, almost destructive lack of self-confidence into a wonderful opus about overcoming a generation-related trauma. It’s a record that really sticks with you, and is a reflection of his deep inner desire to be the most radiant version of himself.
