Pat Metheny spent his younger years in Kansas City playing mostly in organ trios. With his current project Side-Eye, he wants to explore that setting and translate it into a 21st-century context. Side-Eye consists of rotating lineups and Metheny is very enthusiastic about the talented musicians currently in the trio. Joe Dyson and Chris Fishman take Metheny's ideas further than ever. In fact, he refers to Dyson as one of the best musicians he has shared a stage with. A different incarnation of Metheny’s trio released the album Side-Eye NYC - (V1.IV) on Modern Recordings back in 2021. As the title promises, there’s more to come. The album earned the 20-time Grammy winner yet another Grammy nomination. On that, he says, “I am always kind of surprised about things like that. Of course, any recognition by your peers is the best kind.”
