Tilburg is home to the jazz club Paradox: a haven for anyone who really loves live jazz. It’s also the place where saxophonist/arranger Jasper Staps and trumpeter Teus Nobel were able to assemble a new jazz orchestra in 2019. After a successful try-out, the outfit went on to become Paradox's 'house orchestra'. The basis of the orchestra are the session evenings at this creative home base, where the ensemble experiments and tries out new music. The Paradox Jazz Orchestra consists of musicians from the Netherlands and Belgium, and strives to keep special and timeless jazz compositions from big band music alive, also by lending it a contemporary twist. The ensemble does this by playing concerts, releasing music on CD and vinyl, and conducting research, as education also forms part of the agenda. In 2021, the debut album Remembering The Skymasters came out, as a tribute to a famous Dutch big band, with a new release soon set to follow.
