Nohmi is an international group from Rotterdam formed around Korean pianist and composer Miran Noh. They started life as a trio, with Auke de Vries on drums and Patricia Mancheño on double bass, but have since expanded to include Daniel Clason on trumpet and Claudio Jr De Rosa on saxophone. Noh has benefitted from both jazz and classical music training, and her compositions are inspired by the impressionist period within classical music, which is all about atmosphere and mood through the use of timbre, orchestration and progressive harmonic concepts in the style of Ravel, Debussy and Prokofiev. Noh’s other sources of influence stem from jazz pianists such as Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau and Shai Maestro. Last fall saw the debut performance of the debut album A Bird At The Edge at the So What's Next? jazz festival.
