Multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal has been one of Brazil’s most extraordinary musicians for nearly six decades. He is known for his wizardly orchestration and improvisation skills. In addition, Pascoal often wields unusual objects as instruments for his music, such as teapots and children's toys, but also the accordion, melodica and horns. As a producer and accompanist, he has been a key figure on classic albums by Brazilian greats such as Elis Regina and Edu Lobo, and a frequent collaborator with drummer and percussionist Airto Moreira. He played with Moreira on Miles Davis’ 1971 Live-Evil album, which was Pascoal’s international breakthrough. An impressive number of recordings and collaborations followed, upon which he displayed an unsurpassed diversity of styles and refined rhythms. Hermeto Pascoal is a grand maestro, cultural icon and important reference for countless musicians, which is how he went on to be nicknamed 'o bruxo' (the wizard).
