The formation Artemis is a veritable jazz supergroup. The sextet features musical virtuosos who are all composers and bandleaders in their own right. The leader of this ensemble is the successful Canadian pianist/composer Renee Rosnes who joined forces with trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda and drummer Allison Miller five years ago on International Women's Day. The lineup of the group tends to switch from time to time: in the past, for example, singer Cécile McLorin Salvant and saxophonist/clarinetist Anat Cohen were part of the group, whereas alto saxophonist/flutist Alexa Tarantino was brought in to play on the recently released second album Real Time. The members vary in terms of generation, in the tradition of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers. Their repertoire reflects the distinctive characters of the members, ranging from redefining existing pieces to imaginative arrangements of eclectic material. The performances of Artemis are all about fun, strength, passion and a serious showing of intensity.
