With his latest project Pietre, Rotterdam-based Italian double bassist and composer Alessandro Fongaro proves he is one of the most remarkable musicians of the current jazz generation in the Netherlands. He is an ardent musician who refuses to be pigeonholed, but consciously explores boundaries. On Pietre, Fongaro shares a kind of personal diary made up of images and moments related to love and friendship. Musically, he combines rhythms, improvisations and melodies. In a raw yet romantic way, Fongaro and his group create a dialogue brimming with intensity, sensitivity and vulnerability. And all the while he seizes opportunities and takes risks to shape his stories. Leading Dutch jazz magazine Jazzism wrote: “This freedom gives Fongaro's melodic themes, sometimes reminiscent of Ornette Coleman, a special sense of urgency.”
