More and more these days, we see the words “spirituality” and “jazz” linked together, and it makes us think of the music and message of the 1960s, and the sounds of John and Alice Coltrane. But what are we really talking about when we do that? Why is this idea suddenly so significant again? To help us understand this increasingly important element in our music, we have a very special panel featuring three musicians whose careers are steeped in this tradition and who know the music of the Coltranes well – trumpeter Charles Tolliver, harpist Brandee Younger, and saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin.
