With blaring horns and sassy brass, and not one drummer but two, NAFT is the brass band for our times. Like Mardi Gras brass bands, the colorfully dressed musicians prefer to stand in the middle of their audience, dissolving the divide between spectators and performers and making everyone an equal part of the fun. This makes NAFT (in screaming capital letters, of course) the perfect act to transform any club, tent or hall into a spontaneous party. But NAFT deliver more than just a showy performance: there is always room for subtle rhythm accents and sudden melodic changes of pace. Since turning the Gentse Feesten on its head in 2018 (the year and place of NAFT’s formation), the six-piece band has been making rapid inroads in the Low Countries. Their thunderous mix of house, techno, and beats has already been dubbed “acoustic techno”.
