More than two decades ago, singer-songwriter Jill Scott was one of the founders of neo-soul. She began her career as a spoken word artist in Philadelphia where she was discovered by fellow local Ahmir Thompson, aka The Roots drummer Questlove. Scott debuted in 2002 with the album Who Is Jill Scott? Words And Sounds, Vol. I. Her performance in Rotterdam celebrates the album’s 20th anniversary! After her first album, Scott released two more as well as The Moments, The Minutes, The Hours, a collection of poetry. Her voice is powerful and reminiscent of Minnie Riperton, she easily reaches high notes. A fine complement to her mature lyrics, which from the very beginning have always reflected a strong woman who knows what she wants. Scott is now a highly successful multimedia entrepreneur. She also founded the Blues Babe Foundation to help underprivileged young people achieve their dreams through scholarships.
