Anna Webber is often referred to as one of the most exciting new names on the New York avant-garde scene. The saxophonist, flutist and composer originally hails from Canada but settled in New York and later Massachusetts. She was named ‘Top Rising Star Flutist’ by Downbeat Magazine in 2020. Webber is interested in the overlap between improv and newly composed material. Since 2013, she has led the Simple Trio, which also features pianist Matt Mitchell and drummer John Hollenbeck. Both Mitchell and Hollenbeck are also composers in their own right, and have more than earned their spurs within both jazz and new music. After SIMPLE (2014 ) and Binary (2016), the Simple Trio released the album Idiom in the Covid year 2021. Two years on, Webber and her men will finally get to perform their intense, collective improvisations live in Rotterdam.
