We dare you to try and sit still when this band take to the stage, as there’s just no way your feet won’t start to move when you’re listening to the irresistible sounds of The Hi-Stakes. The band is the brainchild of Amsterdam-based Italian singer/saxophonist Samuele 'Sam' Ghezzi. With a passion for the jazz of yesteryear, but with a contemporary twist, Ghezzi revives the golden era of the genre. Last year, he brought us swing and hot jazz of the 1920s and 30s when he played NN North Sea Jazz, accompanied by his Roaring Cats. This year, he’ll be performing colorful blues ballads and thumping old school rhythm and blues with his hip and hyperactive Hi-Stakes. With two tenor saxes and the wonderful guitar playing of Linus Eppinger, Ghezzi & co. offer a modern take on music history. Visually, the band are equally on the mark, because The Hi-Stakes are always suited and booted whenever they take to the stage.
