According to trumpeter Randy Brecker, this is “one really smokin’ band!” Crescent Super Band, hailing from Utah and founded in 2001 under the guidance of saxophonist Caleb Chapman, is seen as one of the best professional big bands in the world consisting of young musicians (ages 15-18). The band has performed at festivals in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy and France, and enjoys national fame in the U.S. due to performances in Chicago, Boston, New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles. A particularly special one was their Carnegie Hall headlining debut in May of 2013. The band has been drawing attention from many contemporary top artists they performed with, among whom Grammy winners such as Joe Lovano, Randy Brecker, Nicholas Payton, Christian McBride, Bob Mintzer and Toshiko Akiyoshi. They were voted Best Youth Big Band by DownBeat Magazine five times. Their sixth album High Hopes is due for release this year.
