Irgwin Placido Sluis, whose stage name is Ir Sais, is a self-taught musician. The singer, who was born on the island of Bonaire in 1988, has no formal musical education, but can play several instruments, including the drums. In 2009, he moved to the Netherlands, where he soon built his own studio. A year later, Ir Sais launched his successful debut single Schatje Zeg Maar (‘Baby Just Tell Me’). He started mixing zouk with pop music, and put out several albums on his own Placido label. The albums Heat, Deeper and Deeper 2.0 have collectively notched up over 100 million streams. A massive hit followed in 2018, when a French DJ used his track Dream Girl on his Instagram. What followed was a TikTok challenge that took the song viral worldwide. It presented a solid opportunity to release a remix, and Ir Sais enlisted some big names such as Sean Paul, Afropop artist Davido, and Puerto Rican superstar Rauw Alejandro.
