Young Jazz Society is a big band from Utrecht that was formed in 2018. It is a group of amateur musicians who nevertheless play at a very high level. Young Jazz Society’s goal is to make jazz accessible to the people of Utrecht. In the past, the band worked on projects with Zuco 103 singer Lilian Vieira, New Cool Collective keyboardist Willem Friede and saxophonist Joris Posthumus, among others. For NN North Sea Jazz, the group has joined forces with artistic director Tijn Wybenga and guitarist Reinier Baas. Wybenga, former Artist in Residence at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam, rewrote several pieces from his award-winning album Brainteaser and composed several new works specifically for this project. In addition, Baas, winner of two Edisons and leader of The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble, has also contributed several songs of his own.
