Woodcraft is a string quintet made up of five young instrumentalists and composers. Although their roots are in classical music, they don’t shy away from experimentation. The group has been gaining momentum since 2016 and its lineup consists of two violinists and three cellists. Yet their origins date back to 2010, when the musicians met during an annual youth music course held in the Dutch town of Orvelte. In the years that followed, they were invited to the Cello Biennale Amsterdam, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and both the Bimhuis and the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam. Last December, Woodcraft won both the jury and public choice awards at the Dutch Jazz Competition. They regularly draw inspiration from great jazz composers such as Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. Earlier this year they released their self-titled debut album.
