Saxophonist and composer Kika Sprangers came, saw and truly conquered in 2019, when her debut album Human Traits was an instant revelation. Sprangers was nominated for a prestigious Dutch Edison Award and went on to win the Netherlands’ Rogier van Otterloo Award as well in 2021. She works with a variety of lineups, and draws her inspiration from portrait photographers and writers. Sometimes she’ll work with a vocalist, and has also used large ensembles. Sprangers, who hails from Nijmegen, studied at the Utrecht Music Conservatory, and released her first EP Leaves Of Lily in 2017. It was the stepping stone to a collaboration with Martin Fondse and Jörg Brinkmann, which led to the album Lumen. In 2022, Sprangers released Mind's Eye, as well as simultaneously putting out an accompanying concert film of the same name.
