Guitarist Bill Frisell is a man who regularly changes lineups to shape his musical ideas. For his latest album Four, released last year, he chose pianist Gerald Clayton, drummer Johnathan Blake and saxophonist Greg Tardy; he has worked with the latter many times before. Baltimore-born Frisell became known in the 1970s for his collaborations with saxophonist John Zorn. He also played for years in the legendary drummer Paul Motian’s band. The guitarist infuses his solo work with elements of folk, country, Americana and rock 'n' roll, among others. In 2005, Frisell won a Grammy Award for his album Unspeakable, and in 2011 he adapted the work of John Lennon in a special way on his album All We Are Saying. Frisell is one of the most innovative jazz musicians of his generation.
