Brazilian singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Bia Ferreira is an activist at heart. In her lyrics, she speaks out ardently against racism and shows her commitment to the LGBTI+ movement. Ferreira calls her music MMP: música de mulher preta (‘music of black women’). She sparked attention with the song Cota Não é Esmola about the controversial system of ethnic and racial quotas for entrance into higher education. The song amassed 13 million views on YouTube and millions of streams on Spotify. Moreover, the lyrics became required reading for the entrance exam of the prestigious University of Brasilia. In 2018, Ferreira was nominated for a Women in Music Award. On her album Igreja Lesbiteriana, Um Chamado, she wraps up her messages in funky beats, reggae rhythms and soulful grooves. In 2022, she made a big splash at the annual World Music Expo Womex and released her latest recording Faminta. Ferreira’s shows are full of music, love and inspiring words.
