Catch them young, they say. And that’s exactly what happened with DOMi & JD Beck, whose star is rising fast - on the jazz scene and beyond. Keyboardist DOMi Louna, born Domitille Degalle, is from France. She was enrolled in music classes from age 2 and as a child entered the Conservatory of Nancy for both classical training and jazz lessons. After having been granted diplomas with highest honors, she first attended the Paris conservatory and then Berklee. JD Beck was a young drum virtuoso, born and raised in the Dallas suburbs and already playing gigs when he was in grade school. After meeting in 2018 the duo joined musical forces and have already worked with Herbie Hancock, Thundercat and Ariana Grande, among others. Their long-awaited debut album will be released on Anderson .Paak’s label APESHIT in partnership with Blue Note Records. Their music finds both humor and greatness in harmonic complexity and rhythmic shiftiness, abruptly adopting and ditching tempos, toying with time signatures, and sneaking extra beats into bridges.
