Kwadwo Adu Genfi Amponsah, known professionally as Kojey Radical, is at the vanguard of a new generation of British artists who are bringing black underground music to the mainstream. He was born and raised in East London and is often termed a “Renaissance man” because of his many talents: he moves seemingly effortlessly across genres and disciplines, from rap, funk and spoken word to fashion, visual art, and cinema. After a string of critically acclaimed EPs such as Dear Daisy, 23Winters and Cashmere Tears, and collaborations with Mahalia, Mereba, Ghetts and Shy FX, among others, his highly anticipated debut album, Reason To Smile, was released last year. To celebrate its release, Kojey Radical spent a week promoting his album at Boxpark Shoreditch, a kind of pop-up shopping mall where he used to work.
