With Mississippi Goddam: An Homage to Nina Simone, the Dutch Metropole Orkest, led by conductor Jules Buckley and featuring American powerhouse vocalists Ledisi & Lisa Fischer, bring us a bold and fresh take on the life of Nina Simone. The members of this project have shared the stage before, and now they show us again why the work of the “High Priestess of Soul” is still relevant. Songs like Work Song, Four Women, My Baby Just Cares For Me and Feeling Good are musically reinvigorated by Buckley and his renowned orchestra with new arrangements showcasing the phenomenal voices of Ledisi and Fischer. Last year, the former recorded the album Ledisi Sings Nina with the Metropole Orkest, which resulted in a Grammy nomination. Lisa Fischer worked for years as a backing vocalist with the Rolling Stones, and she contributed to Gregory Porter’s latest album.
