Nate Smith is one of the most versatile and energetic drummers of his generation. The fire in the playing of the 47-year-old American started in his youth, when he mainly listened to rock and funk bands. Through the work of Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers, the Virginia-born drummer found his true musical muse: jazz. Besides playing the drums, Smith is also a composer, bandleader and arranger. Over the years he has worked with respected names like José James, Pat Metheny, Brittany Howard, Dave Holland and Michael Jackson. His debut album KINFOLK: Postcards From Everywhere (2017), on which Smith fuses together modern jazz compositions with hip hop, pop and R&B, received two Grammy nominations. At NN North Sea Jazz, the drums legend will also bring to life some of the second part of his album trilogy: KINFOLK 2: See the Birds (2021). A concert that will make a lasting impression, filled with finesse, catchy grooves and technical perfection.
